When adopting a dog from Lucky's Crew Animal Rescue, you can expect to receive a dog that has been given a thorough health exam, is spayed or neutered, has a micro-chip, and is up-to-date on vaccinations. In addition, we have assessed the dog's temperament and behavior to ensure that they are suitable for adoption.
We also offer training and behavior support to help you help your new dog adjust to your home and lifestyle. For more intensive training needs, we have partnered with GoodPup, who offer online, positive reinforcement training by certified dog trainers at a discounted price for our adopters.
It's important to note that dogs from rescues, and shelters, may have had a difficult past and may require some patience and understanding as they adjust to their new home. We provide our adopters with all the information we have about the dog's history and inform them of any specific needs, or behavioral issues, that the dog(s) may have. We want our dogs to go home forever, and the only way we can ensure they are never returned is by being honest and transparent about their issues, if any. You can trust us when we tell you a particular dog will, or won't, be a good fit for you and your family.
Filling out an application gives us insight about your lifestyle, home environment, and previous experience with pets. This information is vital in helping us match you with the perfect forever friend.
The submitted application will be thoroughly reviewed and adopter will be contacted via email if we have any questions, or concerns. Landlords, personal references, and/or Veterinarians will be called to verify the information provided in the application. Please inform the applicable parties to expect a call from us.
Once the application review is complete, AND the application has been approved for further processing, our Adoption Counselor will contact you to schedule a home visit, or a video interview (if you don't live in Bakersfield) to meet in person, or virtually, and discuss all-things pet. During the home visit/interview, we look for potential hazards for the dog which the adopter may not have considered to be a hazard. All household members must be present during the home visit/interview. This includes children and pets, if any.
If approved to adopt, our Adoption Counselor will convey the good news to the adopter and schedule a meet and greet with the dog of interest or one, or a few, dogs we believe would be a better fit. Once the perfect match has been made, adopter must sign the adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee before taking their new best friend home!
We are always available for questions, or concerns, adopters may have after adoption.
